Investing in Spelman Students from Metro Detroit
The Detroit Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) awards scholarships to Spelman students who have ties to the Metro Detroit area. Through these awards, we help cover tuition, fees, and other educational expenses so students can focus on learning, leadership, and service.

Who Is Eligible?
Michigan Residents
Awarded to current Spelman students who live in and graduated from high school in Michigan.
Strong Academic Record
Applicants should demonstrate solid academic performance and be enrolled or accepted as full-time students at Spelman College.
Service & Leadership
We look for students who are engaged on campus or in their communities and who embody Spelman’s commitment to leadership and service.
What You’ll Need to Apply
- Current Spelman transcript or proof of enrollment/acceptance
- Personal statement / essay sharing your story, goals, and financial need
- One letter of recommendation (educator, counselor, or community leader)
- A completed online application form (available when the cycle opens)
- Optional: recent resume or activities list
How the Process Works
Review eligibility – Confirm that you meet the basic criteria listed above.
Gather documents – Collect transcripts, recommendations, and essay.
Complete the online form – Available on this page during the application window.
Application review – The Detroit NAASC Scholarship Committee reviews all completed applications.
Award notification – Selected recipients are contacted via email and announced during chapter communications.
