The Ultimate Christmas Party

It was a fabulous night for all of those who attended the annual Spelman Morehouse Holiday Party at the Roberts Riverwalk Hotel on December 15, 2012! Eleshia Teasley '10 spearheaded this effort, chairing this committee on behalf of our chapter.   Alumnae came from as far away as Ann Arbor, Flint, and Pontiac.  Alumnae and current students wobbled the night away and fellowshipped to the sounds of DJ Bruce Bailey.

We raised $400 towards our scholarship fund and three alumnae, Janice Hale '70, Marsha Lemieux '79 and Tanisha Roby '12, joined the ranks of our members for the 2012-2013 year.  Current scholarship recipients, Ariel Flaggs, Destiny Walker, and Lauren Roberts, were acknowledged and Crystal Willis '08, scholarship chair,  presented scholarship certificates from the chapter.  In conjunction with the Morehouse alumni chapter, we also raffled a painting by Michigan artist Brian Whitfield, a stay at the Roberts Riverwalk Hotel, and $10 Target gift cards.    It was a wonderful night!

From Michigan With Love

Zakiya Polk ’07, the current recording secretary and community outreach chair, spearheaded the effort to send care packages to Michigan Spelman students.

Forty-one care packages were prepared and shipped to Atlanta for students, just in time for final exams. The gift bags which varied in content included a mixture of gift cards, homemade cookies, candy, chips, and hot chocolate. Each also contained a letter from a local Spelman alumna wishing students well.

Thank you to Lisa Davis-Patterson ’09, Jessica Gibbs ’11, Thameka Hall ’09, Christina Inman ’07, Alicia Lane ’07, Heather McCowan ’98, Zakiya Polk, Dr. Angela Rogers ’77, Eleisha Teasley ’10, Crystal Willis ’08, and Dr. Joslyn Witherspoon ’00 for contributing to the contents of our gift bags. Many of these same ladies assisted in the letter writing and construction of the care packages.

A special thank you also goes to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Polk and Ms. Loretta Hull for hosting alumnae to prepare the packages!

Upon receiving the packages, students were pleased and grateful.
